Owen Sound's overhead door and entry-system company
Zavtech Overhead Doors and Security Ltd. supplies, installs, and services garage doors, commercial overhead doors, automatic openers, and loading-dock equipment from its shop at 438495 Grey Rd 15 in Owen Sound. Homeowners call Zavtech for a new garage door or a repair that can't wait. Farmers, contractors, and business owners call for big doors on shops, barns, and warehouses. Property managers call when a dock leveler quits in the middle of a shipping day. One crew handles all of it, residential and commercial, across Grey and Bruce Counties.
Rooted in Owen Sound and Grey-Bruce
Zavtech started with Larry Zavitz, an Electronics Engineering Technician who has spent over 25 years installing and servicing door systems across Grey and Bruce Counties. In 2022, Mitch Yurkiw, born and raised in Owen Sound and an Electronics Engineering Technician himself, bought the company and kept Larry's approach: honest advice, careful work, and no pushing for work you don't need. Larry is still on the crew.
Being local matters for doors. Owen Sound sits on the Georgian Bay shoreline, where lake-effect snow, wind off the water, and freeze-thaw cycles put real strain on springs, weather seals, and openers. A shop down the road can get to a stuck door quickly, knows how local buildings are put together, and is still here when the door needs service years later. Zavtech works from Owen Sound out to the South Bruce Peninsula, Tobermory, Kincardine, Shelburne, and Orangeville, plus Collingwood, including project work at Hope Bay.
Doors, openers, and dock equipment under one roof
Most customers need more than one thing: a door and an opener, a shop door and its operator, a dock leveler and new seals. Zavtech's work in Owen Sound covers:
- Residential garage doors, including insulated steel, wood-look, and custom wood carriage doors
- Commercial overhead doors for shops, farms, warehouses, and new construction
- Full-view glass doors and vertical-lift industrial doors
- Automatic garage door openers, commercial operators, and controls
- Dock levelers, edge levelers, dock seals, shelters, and bumpers
- Garage door repair and service on all brands, from springs and cables to rollers and panels
- Garage door replacement when an old door has had its day
- Related perimeter and access technology for commercial properties
Because the same team supplies, installs, and services the equipment, one company is accountable for the whole opening, from the first measurement to the service call years later.
The questions Owen Sound customers bring to the shop
Most calls to Zavtech start with a problem, not a product. These are the questions the team hears most often from homeowners and businesses around Owen Sound:
- My garage door spring snapped. Is it safe to open the door, and can it be repaired the same week?
- Should I repair my older door or replace it with an insulated one before another Grey-Bruce winter?
- My opener hums, reverses, or only works some of the time. Is it the opener or the door?
- What size and style of overhead door makes sense for a new shop, barn, or pole building?
- Our dock leveler is sticking and the seals are torn. Can it be serviced, or does it need replacing?
- Will a new door suit my house before I commit? Can I see it on a photo of my home first?
The answer always starts with a real diagnosis. A broken torsion spring, a worn opener gear, a misaligned safety sensor, and a door that is simply out of balance can all look similar from the driveway. Zavtech finds the cause first, explains the options plainly, and recommends replacement only when repair no longer makes sense. Customers call out exactly that in their Google reviews: a straight answer and no upselling.
A Clopay Authorized Dealer with electronics know-how
Zavtech is a proud Clopay Authorized Dealer, which gives Owen Sound homeowners access to Clopay's full range of residential garage doors. That includes insulated steel doors, wood-look composite doors, and custom wood carriage-house doors built for a specific home. Customers can try styles, colours, windows, and hardware in the Clopay door designer, preview the result on a photo of their own house, and send the design to the shop for a quote.
The other thing that sets Zavtech apart is electronics. Both Larry and Mitch are Electronics Engineering Technicians, so opener faults, control boards, safety sensors, and commercial operator problems that other companies avoid are ordinary work here.
Call, visit, or start online
Customers reach Zavtech however suits them. Call the shop at (519) 371-2131 to talk through a repair or a new door. Send a service or quote request through the contact form any time of day. Design a Clopay door online first. Or stop in at the Grey Rd 15 shop. Commercial customers can send drawings, specifications, or photos of the opening, and the team will follow up with the right next step. Every request goes to the same crew that does the work, so nothing gets lost between sales and the service truck.
Why a specialist door company matters
An overhead door is the largest moving part on most homes and commercial buildings. It is a heavy panel of steel or wood balanced on springs under high tension, with and electronics that have to stop the door instantly when something is in the way. A general contractor can hang a door. A door specialist knows how to set spring tension for that exact door, match the opener to the door's weight and use, set the safety systems correctly, and keep everything working through Ontario winters.
The same goes for commercial and agricultural work. A farm shop door that won't close in January, or a loading dock that is down on a busy shipping day, costs real money. That is why Grey-Bruce businesses rely on a dedicated overhead door company that stocks the parts, services every brand, and has the installs to show for it.
